What is a digital invitation?

A digital invitation is an invitation sent as a link or a file instead of a printed card, usually on WhatsApp. The simplest kind is an image or PDF of a card. The fuller kind is a web page that opens on the guest’s phone with the date, the venue and a map, lets them RSVP, and can be corrected after it has been sent.

The three kinds

  • An image or a PDF of a card. It looks like the printed card and is sent the way a photo is. It cannot be changed once it is sent, and the small print is hard to read on a phone.
  • A video invitation. A short clip with the names, the date and music. It is watched once and then has to be found again in the chat when the guest needs the address.
  • An invitation page. A link that opens a page with the details as text a phone can read, a map, the schedule and a way to reply. It stays where it is, so the guest opens the same link on the day to find the venue.

What a page can do that an image cannot

  • Take the RSVP on the invitation itself, so the replies arrive as a list rather than as a hundred separate chats.
  • Open the venue in a maps app and add the date to the guest’s calendar.
  • Show a changed venue or timing to everyone who already has the link, without sending anything again.
  • Show different guests different things, when the page is made per guest.

What a personalized digital invitation is

A personalized digital invitation is an invitation page made for one guest. The host creates one invitation and each guest receives their own link. The page greets them by name, shows only the functions they are invited to, and carries their own RSVP with their own number of plus-ones. A cousin invited to all three days and a colleague invited to the reception open different pages of the same invitation.

When a printed card is still better

A printed card is an object: it is handed over in person, offered at the temple first in many families, and kept. Elders who do not use a smartphone need one. Most families who send digital invitations still print a small number for exactly these reasons. The two are not rivals; the digital invitation does the work of informing four hundred people, and the card does the work of honouring forty.

What Momen9 is

Momen9 is a digital invitation platform made in India for weddings, engagements, birthdays, anniversaries and other celebrations. A host creates one invitation, from a template or from an AI draft, and every guest gets a personal link sent on WhatsApp. Guests need no app and no account. The same page takes the RSVP, collects wishes and photos, runs live on the day of the celebration and becomes a memory page afterwards.

Questions people ask next

Is a digital invitation acceptable for an Indian wedding?
For most guests, yes: it is how people already share everything else, and it reaches relatives in other cities and countries on the same day. For close elders and for the rituals where a card is offered or handed over, families usually still print a small number. Sending both is the common answer.
Do guests need an app to open a digital invitation?
Not for an image, a PDF or an invitation page. On Momen9 a guest taps the link and the invitation opens in the browser their phone already has. There is nothing to install and no account to create.
Can I make a digital invitation for free?
On Momen9 you can create a celebration, add your guests and send personal links for free, starting from one template for each occasion. The paid plans add larger guest lists, premium designs and live celebration mode, and are priced per celebration rather than as a subscription.
